McCool, Nebraska - August 12, 2011 - Defending series champion Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colorado continued his mastery of Junction Motor Speedway over the weekend as he swept both nights of the eighth annual “King of the Hill” late model challenge this past Friday and Saturday night featuring the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley’s Racing Products DIRTcar late model series.

Friday nights $2000 to win preliminary in McCool, Nebraska saw Boen take off into the early lead and despite a lap eight caution for a multiple car pileup that involved John Anderson and former two-time series champion Al Purkey, kept the pace out front aboard the familiar #07 Roadrunner Fabrication/Pannell Motorsports sponsored Rocket chassis.

However, things would change in the closing laps of the 25 lap feature as former two-time series champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska decided to try something different on the final lap. After running the bottom of the three-eighths mile oval all race long, Berck went to the top side and began closing in on the leader.

The final turn coming out of turn four saw Boen down low and Berck up high and as they crossed the finish line it was Boen by a mere 4/10ths of a second with the victory. Dave Eckrich crossed the line in third place with Mike Collins and Travis Dickes putting in strong performances to round out the top five.

The three heat races for the twenty-seven car field were won by Dean Moore, Dickes and Boen.

Saturday nights “King of the Hill” finale saw a bit different start as Al Humphrey paced the field for the first seven laps before Purkey took control on lap eight. The series veteran kept the field at bay until Boen finally made his move to the front, taking the lead on lap twenty-two and would go on to claim his third series victory in a row and third consecutive sweep of this annual event.

Humphrey ‘s strong run would end in a runner up finish while Anderson caught Purkey at the line to finish third. Eckrich would round out the top five for his second top five finish in as many nights.

Heat races for the 24 car field were won by Dickes, Humprhey and Boen.

Current series point leader Joe Kosiski of Omaha, Nebraska finished sixth and tenth respectively to maintain his points lead over Grand Junction, Colorado driver Dean Moore.
