07MOTORSPORTS_2Season began with Wild West Shootout in Tucson, Arizona   January 9th- 17th. No wins but 3 top 10 finishes.
After this event, Crew Chief Greg Lee took a leave of absence from the team to take care of family business.

Terry Pannell from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma asked Kelly to drive his car. This allowed Kelly to continue racing. Their first race was the Texas World Dirt Track Championship in March. Failed to qualify through the heat race so needed to run a B. Started 23rd worked his way through the pack to take the lead but with one lap to go lost a drive shaft.

IMG_6882April saw them at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri where they finished 3rd.
This was the best finish ever at that track.

The NCRA Season began at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas. Driving the Terry Pannell 33X
The Season Opener saw them finish 10th coming from the back.

Creek County Speedway in Kellyville, Oklahoma saw them bring home Win # 01
Kelly was very happy to do this for Mr. Pannell.

Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker Oklahoma. Started 13th in the feature and came home 5th.

Monett Speedway was rained out.

Mid-Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan saw Kelly cut short his vacation to enter the contest.
Driving the familiar 07 they brought home win #02.

I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, for the Alphabet Soup race. Kelly had never won this event. That changed as they brought home win number #03.

DSC0468Sunflower State Showdown at the newly re-opened Great American Dirt track in Jetmore. Drivers from NCRA were more than happy to make an appearance for this 2 day show. Back driving the 33X, they qualified for Saturday’s feature in 3rd.

Saturday’s feature would see unbelievable action. With 4 laps to go, Anderson, Turner, Boen were fighting for the lead and giving the crowd all the excitement they came to see, when contact happened between Anderson and Boen resulting in Kelly retiring to the pits. Was scored 18th.

Belleville Highbanks saw Kelly back in the familiar 07. Celebrating their 100th Anniversary, and featuring Kelly in their “Driver of the Month” feature on their web site, Kelly helped them celebrate with
Win #04 to the delight of the crowd.

Junction Motor Speedway saw Kyle Berck leading the race but blowing a motor allowing Kelly to inherit the position which he held on to for win #05.

July 2nd and 3rd saw the team once again in the Terry Pannell 33X. On July 2nd at I-80 Speedway, they came in 6th and July 3rd say them with a 5th place finish at Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa.

Late Model Nationals at Mid-Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan, Nebraska on night one, saw the team bring home their #06 win of the season. Night two saw them lose the lead after a late caution coming home second.

Eagle Raceway in Lincoln, Nebraska would find the 07 with the season’s second DNF after contact with another car early in the race.

Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas would provide the seasons best track conditions. The 07 machine was in top form and brought home their #07 win of the season and their 50th NCRA feature win.
Setting a new NCRA record. This record breaking event would lead to a feature article by Mike Chambers in the Denver Post sports section.

One of the most beautiful facilities can be found at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kansas. Kelly and team brought home win #08.

81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas found the team up to the challenge, bringing home their #09 win of
The season.

King of the Hill action at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction would find the team ready to challenge the 3/8 mile oval and in a sweep of the 2 day event, brought home season win’s #10 and #11.

Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas saw the winning streak ended after a bad heat race finish.
Worst starting position of the season found the 07 starting 19th in the feature. He managed to move up
Through the field and finish a respectable 4th.

Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia would give the team a dominating win. Kelly had a half lap lead when the caution came out but the car was so good even on the restart he was able to pull away from the field and finish 12 car lengths in front of the field. Win #12

I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska was the first of a 3 day event over the Labor Day Holiday. Qualifying on the pole for the feature, Kelly would experience mechanical difficulties on the start, spin and head to the pits. After some adjustments, would enter the field at the back. Worked his way to 8th when he had to pull back in…

Heartland Park in Topeka would see the 07 again qualify on the pole. Lead for 29 laps. Jeremy Payne passed him on a re-start leaving Kelly to finish 2nd.

Belleville Highbanks, Belleville Kansas. First time in NCRA history they ran their top 3 divisions on the same night. A packed house saw good action from the Modified’s, 360 Sprint’s and the Late Models.
Kelly and Dean Moore put on a show, Dean lead for more than half the race before encountering lapped traffic allowing Kelly to catch and eventually pass him for the win. That made it an even #12 NCRA wins setting another record.  This win cemented the 07’s 5th NCRA Late Model Championship. It was the 13th win of the season for the team.
